| Hooped tent for Wayfarer dinghy (Mark 2 tent) | |
This tunnel tent has been
designed to fit all marques of Wayfarer; to make use of the minimum number of aluminium hoops; to
keep the weight and size to the minimum whilst providing the maximum
internal space; to minimise the number of fittings screwed to the boat and
keep the price realistic! The central hoop is fitted into
the rowlock holes with a stern hoop fitted with a small plywood crutch to
carry the boom. Two side poles link the hoops together to prevent the
sides collapsing. The front of the tent is hung from the shrouds, with the
shrouds passing through the tent just above the deck, whereas in the MK3
tent the shrouds pass through the roof. The front and rear of the tent are
closed with two flaps either end. The bow flaps do not follow the wash
board but run from the apex of the washboard to the lifting handle
position. A window is provided in one of the bow panels for monitoring the
foredeck when anchored. The boom is lifted to the maximum height at the
gooseneck. The poles will be uncoated 11mm dia. aluminium tube -
the cost of anodising is prohibitive. The current design will almost
certainly fit the classic range of Wayfarers including wooden boats,
however minor changes will be require for the World and Hartley boats. In order to keep the number of
hoops to a minimum and to keep the tunnel shape, the fabric must be as
light as possible and hence the use of cotton ventile. Ventile is an
extremely dense and lightweight fabric but still remains breathable (one
of the disadvantages of synthetic materials). The total weight of the tent
and poles is less than 5Kg. It envisaged that side access
will be provided by a zipped door. The MK2 tent will take as long to erect
as a MK3.
